Are you going to get a tree this year? More importantly… how are you going to decorate it? It’s fun to pick out a tree. Whether you go with a lush holiday rosemary plant or a Charlie-Brown-tree, you are probably going to love it up from early December through late January, right? Sing “Oh Christmas Tree” to a plant that is dressed in style by finding the perfect baubles for its beautiful branches.
Thrift shops are ornament treasure-chests. But when you take home your preciously fragile finds, you need to have a way of making them your own. No one wants foreign, dusty decor — it needs to feel special and unique. Here’s one trick that you can use with all of your ornaments: Spray paint and Sharpie all or your ornaments to make a lovely set that’s uniquely yours.
Only you know what that style is! It might be retro, and it might be punk. I’m guessing that whatever it is, it makes people smile (and best of all, it makes you smile!), so it is worth sharing.
Gather up your thrifted ornaments, and spray paint them one single color as a base layer. This is easiest to do if you hang them from a string or coat rack, so that you can access the bottoms as well as the tops. For a clean look, take off any hardware, and reassemble afterwards.
Once your base layer is dry, use a sharpie marker to scrawl on your message to all tree-admirers. That may be inspiring words, beautiful Aztec shapes, swirling snow-storm like designs, or a simple heart or two. Make it shine!
