Week of June 27th – Summer Music Festival Fashion!

The arrival of summer brings opportunity to dive into activities only available during the warmer months.

Although I live in the Urban Jungle of New York City, outdoor concerts & festivals have remained a staple of my summers, from free concerts at Central Park’s Summer Stage to all-day events featuring national touring groups at festivals on Governor’s & Randall’s Islands in the city’s East River.

Dancing outside all day is a liberating opportunity to get down, dirty and even … GET VINTAGE!

Dressing for a dance party in the great outdoors is about fun functionality and easy-breathy materials that keep you looking cool and feeling light under the hot summer sun.

I curated 12 ideas on what vintage to wear to your next outdoor concert for creative comfort and the one-of-a-kind look you need to catch the eye of the cutie drummer on stage, too!

Spread the love and SHOP VINTAGE!

Week of June 20th – Fun, Fabulous FRINGE!

I love vintage fashion because it’s living proof that the old adage is true: What goes around, comes around.

So what’s coming around this summer? Fun, fabulous FRINGE.

This isn’t your Woodstock-going-Mama’s-fringe, ladies. This is fringe of the future … for today.

Type “fringe” in the search bar of any major mainstream retailer — think TopShop to Urban Outfitters — and you’ve got results just full of fringe.

So where’s the source of inspiration for all this fun-and-fancy-free fringe? VINTAGE!

I curated 12 vintage pieces that match what you’d find available new in the stores today. The advantage to buying vintage? You won’t be rocking the same Urban Outfitters fringe top as your summer school classmate, or have to plop down $50+ just for a mass-produced purse from Top Shop.

I challenge you to buy the vintage trend over new, not only to own the most unique version of what’s-hot-now in your wardrobe, but to invest in healthy, happy fashion that’s just more FUN.

Speaking of fun, have fun with fringe in this week’s Shop Finds! Let me know what you think by “liking” and leaving a comment on your favorites.

[etsyid=74310137:Fringe hangs low from your ears … but style high to the naked eye. Wear with crop tops and cut-offs.][etsyid=76313781: You can’t find fringe vests like this new in stores — and at this price! Wear with skinny dark denim.][etsyid=76164397: The one & only original Levis gives us ’90s-era fringe cut-offs with blackened denim edges.]
[etsyid=76085007:Floral scarves serve playful purpose as exotic hair covers, boho stylish shawls and hipster picnic blankets.][etsyid=76244637:Fringe boots are fun, but red fringe boots? Absolutely fabulous with any dress at a music festival.][etsyid=76317643: A perfect excuse to wear white past Labor Day, or at least all summer with dirty denim & luxe leather.]
[etsyid=69472427:Beaded Native American necklaces stand out against sun-kissed skin and light cotton tees.][etsyid=70950879:Crotchet has come back from the past, too. This one with fringe is a double whammy of timeless trend.] [etsyid=74704398:Patterned denim is hard to find new in stores. Wear with skyrocket heels and if you dare, a bustier crop top.][etsyid=74951802: Burnt orange + fringe = a summer belt of epic proportions. Hang it off your waist on dark denim to show off. ][etsyid=75426103:An easy-to-find style in new stores that’s never affordable leather, unless you buy this vintage version!][etsyid=73911576:This Navajo-style cropped top length covers the naval for girls sensitive to baring their stomachs.]

Week of June 13th – Father’s Day Feature!

Father’s Day is right around the corner, and with it bears the pressure of getting good ‘ole Dad the perfect gift … that’s not another tie, pack of golf balls or Jack & Coke toasting another year of fatherhood at the neighborhood bar.

But being the vintage lovers that you are, I bet you’d love to give your Dad something vintage … and possibly older than HIM! (Just don’t tell him that part!)

I curated 12 unique vintage gifts for this week’s Shop Finds to give Dad this Father’s Day. From staples like luggage and wallets to the more creative options of subway token cufflinks and beer can lighters (really!) — give Dad any of the pieces featured below to show your love for both him and VINTAGE!

And don’t forget those other men in your life … boys like vintage, too! This week’s Shop Finds was also curated with a few new Sammy Davis Vintage male followers in mind. Hope you enjoy the finds this week, boys! ;-)

Week of June 6th

Ah, the allure of the celebrity TREND! Thanks to Kate Middleton’s style inspiration from across the pond, American counterparts are taking queues to invest in the latest “hair craze” since Jennifer Aniston’s Friends haircut.

Enter the hair fascincator — a feminine piece of hair & head decoration that come in all shapes, sizes & designs, “fastening” onto your head thanks to headbands, clips & clasps.

I started musing about my “hair accessories” this week when I realized that I was growing tired of head scarves and sometimes a hat just left me sticky & sweaty under the summer sun.

I’m loving this week’s Shop Finds page because it’s inspired me to wear vintage in a new way — that’s what I like to call “modern vintage,” the act of wearing the old to work with your timeless tastes of today.

Week of May 30th

I remember the day I “met” my first romper.

I was thrift shopping at Bargain Thrift, one of my favorite thrift stores of all time located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where I attended college. I uncovered a bit of ditzy white florals on a red base from amongst the many dresses on a rack … and it was there that I witnessed the adorably chic & easy beauty that is the romper.

I’ve been wearing rompers since I was 21, and I’m still wearing them today at 25.

The difference between my rompers of yesterday and those of today? Unlike my “anything goes” mentality of season’s past, now I want them to sit gracefully on my body and with a design that speaks to summer maturity and not just teenager trends.

You can find rompers sold in stores today — like Urban Outfitters or Nasty Gal — that were inspired by some of the pieces I’ve curated in this week’s Shop Finds page below.

The difference? Buying a vintage romper is an investment in style history, quality and greater attention to detail. Peter pan collars, crisscross back straps and button-up fronts are all some of the finer accents you’ll find featured in this week’s collection.

And did I mention price, yet? All of the rompers below cost less than $30 — leaving you with enough pocket money to buy an ice cream cone and “romp away” for a summer of cool, fresh style.
