OK, sorry to start this post with an exclamation of “AH!” But that’s sort of how I’m feeling right now. Because this is the most untimely post EVER but still a bit of information that’s worth putting out there in the Internet-sphere. Because if I didn’t post it — no matter the timetable — you wouldn’t know about it! And we can’t have that.
But I digress. Over the weekend of February 5th & 6th, the awesome online vintage marketplace MARKET PUBLIQUE repped at the elite twice-annual Manhattan Vintage Show. Founder and vintageista [yes, I just invented that word and I hope it becomes a Twitter trend soon, #vintageista, get on it!] Pamela Castillo coordinated a booth packed with top Market Publique sellers.
Some Like Us, Erstwhile Style, Rabbits, Dusty Rose Vintage & Artifaktori Vintage were in on the Manhattan Vintage Show action. And ACTION it certainly was — keep reading for some of the vintage shopper fashion I caught on film, plus my continuing obsession with all things SEQUINS.
As Pamela has said to me, “You are the sequins queen!”
Well, if I’m the sequins queen, I hope my throne is adorned with them – Holla!
The Market Publique House Store. That’s where it’s at, folks.
Me, Pamela, & Market Publique photographer extraordinaire Kate. Note Pamela’s hat: HOW AWESOME IS THAT?!
OK, **Girl Crush Alert**
Simone of Erstwhile Style is my new girl crush. She is a New York to Arizona and back to New York [well, Northern NJ] transplant with a beautiful personality, mind, body & soul. That sounds corny. But for reals: She is a one-woman business; curating, modeling, & operating her vintage business. She is an inspiration and I had to interview her on Sammy D TV talking about her collection here.
Manhattan Vintage Show Style Exhibit #1: The woman in the bright orange Russian hat.
Turns out she is a stylist and vintage dealer herself. Go figure.
I respect a girl who can rock cowboy boots.
One note about ‘em: I never see BOYS wearing cowboy boots. Can someone please show me a handsome, young gent rocking out like he’s from the Southwest? [& please, DON’T send me a pic from SXSW]
**Best Story Ever Alert**
Being the sequins queen that I am, I obviously HAD to approach this lovely vintage dealer and snatch a picture of her fabulous sweater. The best part: She shared a little heart-warming story with me about said sweater.
At the show, that VERY DAY, the legitimate DESIGNER of that sweater approached her to tell her that she designed and hand sewed its sequins over two decades ago in Hong Kong!
OMG! Can you believe that! For you to be wearing a vintage piece and then have the creator of said piece approach you? It’s a small world folks, even in vintage!
I love sequins & all things bling bling, but I would NEVER try to learn how to hand-sew all that business onto a sweater. More power to those who can!
There I go. Grabbing the loudest piece in the Market Publique booth and trying it on.

And now … to introduce the sellers! SOME LIKE US [sorry guys, couldn’t find your URL!]
Didn’t make the Manhattan Vintage Show this year? It’s OK. GOOD NEWS!
Vintage never dies. Check ‘em out when the 2-day event returns this fall. Get on the mailing list for updates & discounts.
Maybe Sammy D will be selling next time around — especially after my #roadtrip2010 August 1st- October 1st! [i.e., I am buying vintage around this country to bring back to YOU!]
Oh … and lots of sequins. LOTS of them.
