There must be a term for finding a new never worn item of clothing, e.g. a sweater or jacket with the pockets still threaded shut. Like buying something a person got as a gift but never wore. Heck, you could even regift it as it is new. Maybe regiftable thrift.

We have a St Vincent de Paul thrift store in our town that all their profits help the poor they don’t send any money to a national office like some non profit ones do wherever the store is located the money stays fully in that community. We call our local St Vincent de Paul either SVDP or Vinnies.

“Gutterpunk Gamut”= when my friend and I share a day off to go to all the thrift stores we can,we run the gutterpunk gamut. We both grew up punk rock and wear the “gutterpunk” title with nostalgic pride, now that were are semi-successful adults.
“Farm the pov” = when bored late at night, the practice of going through bags and boxes left on the sidewalk at “Poverty Resistance” after hours (donations after hours are discouraged, but always happen, so we felt justified).
“Farm the Sal” = same, nut salvation army.
“Farm Vinnie’s” = same with St. Vincent Depaul’s unwelcome after hours donations.
“Farm the Meth” = same with Methodist thrift shop.

My favorite term is Thrifted Sister because there’s alot of us out there and we’re all in this together:) I have a Facebook page of the same name–I don’t sell anything there–but I hope others will post their links to sell their items. I just like the show-and-tell, talk about and celebrate thrifting and thrift store treasures!

Here’s some words used regularly by me and my peeps:
“Junkin” is a fav and was a show on a cable channel that’s now all sports (what a tragedy)!
“Slummin” my friend and I use the term when we go downtown to the shops in the less desirable areas of town, but the ones there seem to have the best finds! We also noticed if we dressed down, or super casual, we could bargain easily if necessary.
“Road Trip” if this word is mentioned, my husband knows I am also carrying the map to all thrift store locations in the vicinity of our route and destination! The thrifting activity is inferred.
“Thrifty Grail” or “Da Bomb” my friend in Ohio has found so many awesome treasures that it’s hard to define the one best find (thrifty grail or da bomb). Last week she found a pair of silver Manolo Blahnik heels for 5.99. I can pretty much assure her that is the Thriftin Grail of the decade!

TA – Thrifter’s Anonymous (Seriously, it’s an addiction.)

And, Sammy, I love “thrift release.” The thrift store is my sanctuary. I can walk the aisles for hours. It’s odd how I am so at peace. I started my blog late last year as a means to helping me cope with my father’s terminal illness. I’m sad to say that he lost his battle with cancer two weeks ago. At his memorial service on Sunday, in his honor, I wore a newly “thrifted” vintage maxi dress and I actually gave the “GW” and the $5.99 price a shout out during my tribute to him. My dad loved fashion, my thrifty finds, and me. Now that’s the definition of a “thrift score.” ; )
