Hi Sammy. I just stumbled on your website through the costume jewelry link that Collectors Weekly shared. Having graduated from high school 20 years ago, and having had a mother who was working an office job in that era, I have two notes about your “floral maxi.” I believe that length is more correctly called a midi. A true maxi goes to the ankles. I know the midi terminology goes back at least to the late 60s, when there was a riot of skirt lengths available. In the late 80s and early 90s, my mom had a closet full of midi-length ditsy-print rayon dresses – that and a pair of pumps was sort of her work uniform, because it was an easy way to dress. In my memory, most of them had 3/4 length sleeves, but there were some long-sleeved ones too.

In reply to Dahlia. Dahlia, this is so refreshing to read. You are only 8 years younger than I am ;-) I am very young! I think that exploring the past, no matter our age, is very important. We see how change has happened but can also take inspiration from it for today, which is what you are doing. We are constantly marketing "new new new new." It is important to live in the now, but we can live as we feel best and for the vintage lover community, many of us do adopt traditions and styles of the past because we are not comfortable with that of right now. And the '90s did have a different way of living!! I mean, the internet?! It hardly existed! I remember using a payphone! haha! That will be great when you go to Portland. You know that Portland has GREAT vintage!

I was born in ’94 so unfortunately I wasn’t able to really experience everything. I get what I can from old tv shows/movies, music and whatnot but it isn’t enough :( I’ve always felt like I belonged to another era.. maybe the 40’s, 50’s, 60′, 80’s, and/or the 90’s; I love them ALL! :D Really wish I had a time machine honestly. Come to think of it I’ve been listening to a lot of synth/nu-disco/80’s inspired music and I’d love to share with you if you like that kind of thing :D I live in Georgia currently, and hopefully I should be moving to Portland in two years for school :) You’re my inspiration because a lot of people don’t have an interest in the past nowadays and I think it’s sad because there was really so much to love and look back on with fond, bittersweet memories :’) It’s strange that I can miss a time that I never even knew.
