I can’t remember the day I stole this vest from my mom’s closet.
And I can’t even remember if it was even IN her closet, or if it was tucked behind a jacket in our downstairs closet, terribly forgotten but never completely lost.
Because I found it. And look what fabulous other things I’m doing with it.
So that’s why this post is titled as such. It is truly THE vest that just, uh, “works.” And the real beauty of it: my mom bought it sometime in the ’70s, kept it in the mint condition that it is, and I just happened to find it, steal it, and call it my own.
Thanks, Mama D!
THE LOOK: Brown on Vest
THE TOP: Uniqlo, New York City
THE NECKLACE: Leather strand from an old Gap cardigan circa 2001-2002 [remember when the long cardigans were in? Yeah. This is from one of those]
THE EARRINGS: No idea where, when, and why I bought ‘em, but I wear ‘em. That’s all that matters.
THE JEANS: H&M, circa 2007
THE BELT: Thrift, stolen from my brother’s closet
THE BOOTS: Steve Madden, Marshals
Yes, that is a random leather strand I made into a necklace. Crafty? Absolutely.
Everyone should own jeans in bright colors. I mean, why go blue when you can go teal instead?
This vest appears very masculine at first glance, but check out this feminine touch in the back – a satin sheen & bow. Adorable.
WHAT I DID: Tucked in this extremely long shirt from Uniqlo into my jeans, so that the vest covered most white but the sleeves.
I feel like a prep here – throwing my vest over my shoulder like this. But hey. A girl’s gotta take something off, some of the time, right?
