Thrifted Style Outfit: Wearing Vintage to the Google Headquarters

Thrifted Style Outfit: Wearing Vintage to the Google Headquarters 11

In special honor of today’s post, I’m hereby naming today GEEK OUT WEDNESDAY!!!!

Here’s why I’m pulling out the inner nerd in Sammy Davis Vintage: Monday night I was lucky enough [and excited enough!] to visit the Google NYC headquarters in Chelsea to visit with two friends and fashion-lovers who work there.

Now, I don’t know about you, but my college education was pretty much based on the existence of Google. From Google.com to Gmail to Google chat to now Google docs and beyond … I don’t know what I would done without the big “G” in my life, because it definitely helped with that other ominous G that I so gratefully achieved: GRADUATION!

The funny thing about Google is that as it exists today, it will no longer exist this way tomorrow. And most importantly, in one year … five years … 10  years! Can you imagine living in 2021 and reflecting upon the “Google of yesterday?” It’s a slightly frightening, but all-too-true reality: All that we are now will someday be “vintage” and “behind the times” tomorrow.

But I’m not blogging today to muse about the future of technology and Google’s impact on it. I’m blogging to share how I added some vintage flair to the superstar site’s NYC headquarters in Chelsea, Manhattan — and oh yeah, to geek out about the fun and free environment of the offices themselves. As my Google host said, “It’s almost like I work in a preschool.”

Keep reading after the jump to see some pictures of this “Google preschool,” and the nitty gritty on how I wore flashback fashion to the HQ of a flash forward digital conglomerate!

Happy “Geek Out Wednesday” everyone … what are you geeking out about today? Don’t ever hesitate to post on the Facebook fanpage, ask for a retweet on Twitter or YES! send me a shout on FourSquare. And oh yeah … that thing called Gmail. I have that, too. ;-)

xx, SD

THE FUN

The Google offices are a mix of tech startup [think the offices in The Social Network] meets preschool [games, snacks and distractions around every corner] meets college recreational center.

Above is a glimpse of the HQs fun side, including [upper left] scooters available to freely ride through the office, a massage chair, and a VINTAGE COMPUTER MUSEUM!

I saw a few computers loved and used in my middle school and high school days. Does that make me more vintage than I realize?! I guess it all depends on perspective … !
