How To Give Vintage Accessories A Modern Vibe

Don’t be afraid to mix the old with the new. When you work with your vintage accessories, you can mix in modern elements by customizing the piece in specific ways. Cut, glue, sew, and re-wire vintage accessories to turn them into unique hybrids. Here are some ideas.

  • Add bold ribbon to a pearl necklace, and include an asymmetrical bow (like in the photo above).
  • Combine two pieces (one old and one new) of different eras. Two bracelets attached together might make a great hybrid necklace.
  • Replace the face of a vintage watch with a modern image, such as a photograph or magazine cut-out.
  • Cover one element of the piece with fabric. This works especially well with necklaces that have one large central charm, like a locket. Glue modern fabric over the central focus of the necklace.

These little updates make vintage jewelry into modern artwork. Do you like this idea, or do you think vintage jewelry should be left alone? Share your opinion in the comments section below.
