What’s better than a D.I.Y. project for a dark, wintry day? These vintage inspired D.I.Y. ornament ideas are fun to put together, and look great on the tree or hanging from a windowsill. So get out the glue-gun and put on some holiday music as you tackle one (or all) of these ornament projects.

1. Musical Cookie Cutters

Vintage metal Christmas cookie cutters make beautiful ornaments. You can create a background out of yellow-toned sheet music, vintage postcards, or even wrapping paper.

Paste your background to card-stock or cardboard before gluing it into the cookie cutter. Fasten a wire or string loop to the top, and add in a few beads or sparkles so that your lights will have something shiny to reflect off of.

2. Use Vintage Fabrics

Cover bulbs with vintage fabric for a old-time vibe. An easy way to do this is to cut the fabric into strips, and then soak them in Modge Podge or watered down Elmer’s glue. Wrap the strips around the bulb, and then coat with another layer of glue to smooth down any frayed edges.

3. Incorporate Photographs

The holiday season is steeped in traditions. You can add family photos to the mix of holiday or Christmas decor by photocopying and including the images in your artwork. Give your ancestors and loved ones a place on the tree.
