Happy “Manhattan Vintage Show” Monday, everybody!!!

I’m so excited to announce that the Manhattan Vintage Show will be showering vintage lovers like you & me with its glorious event on Friday, April 29th & Saturday, April 30th at New York City’s Metropolitan Pavilion.

Call up your friends and clear your calendars now — the event is TWO WEEKS away, and I definitely don’t want my local readers to miss out, especially because I was a guest stylist and show exhibit curator for this season’s show!

I’ll be at the show from beginning to end on Friday. If you see me, say HELLO! We’ll grab pictures and oogle one-of-a-kind vintage, all in the name of  creative style and self expression.

I’m so honored to have had the opportunity to lend my insight and styling tips for the direction of this season’s show. The theme, “Do You Have ’70s Sense?” was inspired by the season’s hottest trends from the runway.

From Etro’s boho prints, Marc Jacobs’ chic pantsuits,  Rodarte’s disco shine and Chloe’s wide leg trousers and more — spring/summer 2011 is a whole lotta ’70s  and thanks to the upcoming MVS, you can add a piece of the original style to your spring wardrobe!

For more Manhattan Vintage Show coverage, check out all the fun vintage pieces I found at the warehouse and read more on what you can buy at the Manhattan Vintage Show.

I hope everyone had a GREAT weekend of living in the moment and embracing the excitement of your beautiful, fabulous lives.

I spent the weekend brainstorming the exhibit I’ll be assembling for the show. If you attend (or win one of the pairs of tickets I’m giving away!) check out the exhibit in the pavilion’s lobby to see what will surely be an awesome demonstration of ’70s fashion sense!

THE WINNING ’70s LOOK!

manhattan vintage show 1970s vintage fashion picture

THE LOOK: ’70s ethnic wide-leg pant suit. It almost looks like a dress when standing still, or not holding a pant leg as I am, above.

This outfit captures what ’70s is all about and demonstrates how to rock the fun, fresh patterns of the era in a flattering, contemporary way. The mix of patterns against the backdrop made the look really “pop” — which is why we chose it for the show flyer!

HOW WE STYLED IT: The model took off her shoes and jumped for joy with bug-eye shades and a mega choker necklace made from wooden ornaments and leather thread.

While the ’70s was known for synthetics like polyesters, the evolution of the ’60s chill “hippie” to the active, anti-war ’70s “flower child” popularized fashion’s use of “natural” fibers and earth materials, like wood.

VINTAGE WAREHOUSE: BEHIND THE SCENES

  1. What an amazing opportunity, I can’t even imagine having access to 3 floors of vintage clothing! Do they rent out the clothing or is it also for sale?

The photographs came out well, I wear ’70s clothing on a daily basis so it’s interesting to see how high fashion has interpreted these looks.

  2. Everything Goes on Staten. My key accessory is the scarf and that shop has an entire room dedicated to them. Plus, they have a vintage furniture gallery, a vintage book shop and cafe, and a vintage art store with paintings and sculpture. My fav website is for Vegas’ The Attic. Love their blog and highlights of their newest items.

  3. I love love love Vintage Thrift on 3rd Ave. Not only have I grabbed some pretty spectacular items from their auction window (I literally begged for this one phone– and I don’t even have a land line!) but they have gorgeously curated clothes and housewares for reasonable prices consistently. The best part is that proceeds go to a community organization, United Jewish Council of the East Side, so you’re helping out a bit too.

  4. Ohh, tough question. I think my favorite vintage store is Angela’s Vintage Boutique. I find that they tend to have clothes from the 50s/60s era (my fave) and also clothes in my size more often than other stores. There also used to be an amazing little vintage store on Ave B and 11th st–I forget the name of it and I haven’t been back in a while, so I don’t even know if it’s still there.

  5. I love pretty much vintage clothing store or market…most of my vintage finds have come from small vendors. If it’s got to be a store, I’d say Arch Angel Antiques on east 9th. It’s not just clothes, but everything in there is amazing–it’s a treasure trove.
