I believe in the power of connection.
In college, I fell into the addictive habit of hosting coffee dates with two or more people. Why? Because I didn’t want to just connect with one person … I wanted to connect multiple people at once.
It’s my passion for bringing talented people together which inspired me to host my first event at the Etsy Labs on Wednesday, July 17th.
The networking and instructional event, “SEO for Etsy Sellers,” was attended by 17 members of the NYC Vintage Sellers Team on Etsy, which I co-founded with Simone Hine of Erstwhile Style.
I have a dream that in cities across the country, Etsy sellers like you will organize your own vintage sellers teams so that sellers in your community have a space to meet, greet, inspire and collaborate with one another. Because as all sellers know, it can take an army to understand the nuances of operating a business online – not to mention one as competitive and saturated as the secondhand fashion market.
The cliche is true – there’s strength in numbers. And I’m happy to report that Wednesday’s event was just the beginning of the collaborative unity we can all work together to create as #vintagelovers, sellers and female entrepreneurs on this planet.
Thank you to Diane Dulgerian Photography for capturing photos of the event! Keep reading after the jump for the event pictures and to learn more about my course, SEO for Vintage Sellers and how you can join the NYC Vintage Sellers Team!

The Etsy Labs
<< 1. Known as the “Etsy Labs,” this space is available for anyone in NYC involved with the Etsy community to participate in Etsy-led events, oftentimes revolving around a craft-focused project or instructional seminar. If you are a team leader on Etsy, you can connect with Etsy admin to host a meet-up here, too! The Etsy Labs are located on the 7th floor, while the Etsy HQ are located on the 5th floor.
<< 2. Check the fridge – totally vintage style!
<< 3. Surprisingly, no one used the photobooth. Next time!
<< 4. Each team member received a sheet of the evening’s events and contact information of team members in attendance. Because sharing is caring!
The SEO for Vintage Sellers Seminar
For the instructional portion of the evening, I led a seminar based on my SEO for Vintage Sellers Smackdown course, available for purchase on Pop Expert.
Taking time to learn the secrets of SEO increases traffic to your Etsy shop, encourages greater engagement with your shop (in my words: people “stay to play” and explore various shop sections) and better positions you to reap the rewards of increased hearts, favorites and social media follows/likes.
Because at the end of the day, Etsy sellers need increased traffic to their shops to increase the odds of sales!
Carlita of Sankofa Vintage
Laura of La Poubelle Vintage – and the mastermind behind New York’s first mobile vintage shop on RV wheels!
Karen of Dark Bloom Vintage and Jeizel, a new vintage seller who will be launching on Etsy very soon! (go Jeizel!)
Sarah and Brian of Le Double Ve Vintage, who were also my “smackdown students” for the seminar.
I showed the audience how to optimize the shop title, announcement, sections, about page, listing titles/descriptions/tags of Le Double Ve as an example so that attendees could better understand how to execute the best changes for their own shops.
Thank you Sarah and Brian for your cooperation – you were smackdown students with a smile!

<< 1-2. Thank you to the admin of Etsy for taking part in the evening’s activities! We loved having you in the audience and sharing our #vintagelove with you.

Need an SEO Makeover for Your Etsy Shop?
“Where my customers at??”
If you’re a seller on Etsy asking yourself this question on a regular basis, keep reading.
A shop can’t be “found” by users of Etsy unless it’s SEO-optimized.
What’s SEO you ask? It’s the process of writing your shop description, about page, titles, listing descriptions and more so that they include the best keywords allowing for the greatest amount of potential eyeballs landing on your listings and exploring your shop to see what else you have for sale.
In other words, an SEO-optimized site = a shop which buying customers find … without you having to tweet, Facebook, Instagram or send a single smoke signal about it.
That’s why I’m offering a class on Pop Expert for all Etsy sellers to learn the ins and outs of SEO so that their shops can rank in the first pages of search, retain customers for engaged shoppers and be found by buying-customers looking for their products.
